How much booking apps charge a hair or beauty salon

There are four things to look at: the monthly fee, whether it goes up for each person on the team, the commission for each new customer its marketplace brings you and the fee on online payments. Those with a marketplace usually charge per new customer (Treatwell, 25% of the first booking; Booksy, 30% of the first visit capped at €50 + VAT); management-only tools charge a fee. This guide is written by Servomo, which also sells tickets: for the others we only report what they publish on their website, with the date we checked.

The four things to compare

The fee is what you see; what changes the maths is everything else. A marketplace that takes a percentage of the first visit can get expensive if it brings you lots of customers who don't come back, and a fee that rises per person weighs more the bigger the team.

Servomo

  • Price: monthly fee by the number of people with a calendar: from €20 (1 person) to €60 (6 or more), excluding VAT, and 0% commission per booking. With legal invoicing (Plus), from €25. 14-day free trial, no card needed.
  • Where the money goes: deposits and online payments go into the business's own card terminal (Redsys, with card and Bizum), in its name: Servomo never touches the funds.

Booksy

  • Price: €34.99 + VAT a month and €8 + VAT per extra employee; payments from 2% + €0.15. Boost (customers from its app): 30% of the first visit, capped at €50 + VAT.
  • Where the money goes: through Booksy's payments; its Spanish site doesn't state the payout timeframe, apart from instant payouts (1.5%).

Fresha

  • Price: €19.95 a month for one person or €12.95 per team member, excluding VAT; online payments 1.29% and in person 0.99%. For each new customer from its marketplace it applies a "one-off fee" whose amount isn't published on its Spanish site.
  • Where the money goes: through Fresha's payments, which split the takings among the team; it doesn't publish the payout timeframe.

Treatwell

  • Price: no published monthly fee ("Start for free"); 25% commission on the first booking of each new marketplace customer and 0% on repeat bookings, plus 2% + VAT processing on bookings paid online.
  • Where the money goes: through Stripe, into the Treatwell Connect account; paid out daily, weekly or fortnightly (fortnightly by default).

Koibox

Bookitit

  • Where the money goes: prepayment through Redsys, into the business's own card terminal.

SimplyBook.me

  • Price: free up to 50 bookings a month and €13.90 to €59.90 a month depending on bookings (with a discount paying yearly); it doesn't say whether VAT is included.
  • Where the money goes: in the business's own gateway (Stripe, PayPal, Square and others), with no fee of its own.

What to ask before signing

If an app doesn't publish what it charges per new customer, get it in writing. And ask about lock-in too: some terms make you stay for months.

  • Do you charge for each new customer? How much, and on what amount?
  • Does the fee go up for each person on the team?
  • Do deposits go into my terminal or your account? When do you pay them out?
  • Is there a lock-in?
